Safeguarding & Code of Conduct

  • SAFEGUARDING POLICY

    Safeguarding/Child Protection Policy

Street Beatz Dance Academy strives to ensure that children and vulnerable adults are protected and safe from harm whilst participating in Street Beatz Dance Classes. We endeavor to promote the highest standards of care for participants and work according to guild lines listed below:

    • Every Dance Coach MUST carry an up to date DBS check and this MUST be updated every three years.
    • Any complaints/concerns with a child or young person must be reported to the Designated safeguarding Lead of the company. (In the case of Street Beatz it is Jessica Groves – 07967970801)
    • Street Beatz dance Academy are members of the National Association Of Teachers Of Dancing. This is our National Governing Body and they can be contacted on natd.org.uk
    • Under no circumstances should any member of staff or volunteer inflict physical or psychological harm on a child.
    • Manual support-if necessary-should only be provided openly and adhering to guidelines provided by the National Governing Body.
    • If it is necessary to supervise children in changing rooms, always ensure you work in pairs with another coach. An open environment should always be encouraged.
    • Never engage in rough, physical games including horseplay
    • Never allow children and young people to use inappropriate language.
    • Never allow allegations made by a child to go without being followed up, or unrecorded.
    • Never make sexually suggestive comments to a child, even in fun.
    • Never do things of a personal nature for children and young people that they can do themselves
    • Never make arrangements to meet children and young people on their own. All arrangements for subsequent coaching must be made with the parents/guardians.
    • It is recognized that Sports and Dance coaches are not experts at working with child abuse and it is not always easy to recognize. Therefore coaches should discuss any concern they have about the welfare of a child immediately with the DSL.
    • If a young person indicates that he or she is being abused you should: –
      • React calmly so as not to frighten or alarm the child.
      • Tell the child that they were right to tell you and are not to blame.
      • Take what the child says seriously.
      •  Keep questions to a minimum to ensure a clear and accurate understanding of what has been said.
      • Reassure the child but do not make promises of confidentiality, which might not be feasible in the light of a subsequent development.
      • Make a full record of what has been said, heard and seen as soon as possible.
      • Report to the Designated Safeguarding Lead, Jessica Groves – 07967970801 who will then inform the relevant School/College Safeguarding Officer.
    • For local safeguarding services please contact GOV.UK or in an emergency please call 999.
  • OUR RULES

We like to keep things informal and relaxed (this is streetdance after all!), but there are a few things to bear in mind. Although we have our branded clothing range, it is not a compulsory ‘uniform’ – unless you are involved in a show or competition and representing Street Beatz. For classes, we ask that you wear appropriate sportswear and trainers. Due to safety reasons: no skirts, tight-fitted clothing or loose jewellery to be worn and please don’t bring food or chewing gum to class. It’s a good idea not to eat shortly before classes, but please DO bring plenty of water!
